Back to News... Olivia Wehrung, 7 year old 2nd grader at The Rice School, was invited to generate art work supporting the Chagall for Children exhibit located at the Children’s Museum. The special art work was intended to support the museum’s Chagall exhibit by adding a child’s interpretation of one of the artist’s famous paintings. Olivia chose to recapture the work titled “The Rooster”, for her museum debut. In her translation of the Chagall masterpiece, Olivia was able to portray Chagall’s style of dream-like fantasy through her use of mixed media and vibrant colors. Her refreshing painting added to the whimsical and illusionary quality of the entire display.
Through this exhibit, the Children’s Museum has sparked creativity and imagination for audiences in this never-before-seen Chagall for Children presentation. Fourteen of the artist’s most prominent paintings have been reproduced and displayed to stimulate children’s senses with intellectual and amusing activities that involve altering, recreating and even completely changing Chagall’s artistic concept. The participatory exhibit requires logic and perception as viewers touch, play and literally interact with the paintings.
Thanks to the Children’s Museum for providing their patrons the opportunity to take part in such a provoking exhibit. Thanks also to the Rice School’s artist-in-the-making, Olivia Wehrung, for adding that special touch of surreal ambiance which helped to complete the show. Chagall for Children will be on display until January 7, 2008. Don’t miss the fun!
